You are warmly invited to attend the world premiere of my new piece, You are the Mirror, commissioned by Christopher Stokes for the choristers of Manchester Cathedral. This is a setting of extracts from Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet and is set for Kora and choristers with a soliloquy for double bass solo written and performed by Michael Cretu. It is taking place on Monday 29 June at 1.10pm at Manchester Cathedral.
It’s been a very busy and exciting few months for me and my Koras with performances at the RNCM, Manchester Cathedral, Trades Club Hebden and a BBC Radio 4 broadcast amongst many other things. Next week I am taking myself off to the remote Isle of Eigg in the Inner Hebrides where I will compose some new music, inspired by the island’s singing sands – a beach which resonates with sound as you tread across it. Look out for the results in due course!
You’ll find all kinds of musical sketches written or arranged by me for Kora, voice and any other instruments I can lay my hands on at Soundcloud;
You’ll also find out about Stringboxes’ activities on our separate wordpress site;
Thanks to everyone who has supported performances over the last few months, it’s lovely to grow the family of kora appreciators across the UK and internationally!
